2026 Scholarship Winner Christine Contreras

Christine Contreras

My goal is to become a healthcare quality data analyst, using measurement and data to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery. I am drawn to the analytical side of quality improvement, ensuring that data is accurate, identifying trends and translating metrics into insights that support better clinical and operational decisions. Currently, I work as a trauma registrar at St. Francis Medical Center’s trauma department, where I see how precise measurement impacts patient care. I am now pursuing a master’s degree in quality assurance to deepen my expertise in measurement science and quality improvement methodologies. Ultimately, I want to use these skills to improve healthcare for my community, helping ensure that every patient receives effective, efficient, and equitable care.

My primary objective is to leverage my background in mathematics and statistics to advance the field of metrology. I am currently focusing on my Master’s in Statistics. By participating in the American Statistical Association (ASA) and pursuing honors- level coursework, I am developing the quantitative skills necessary to solve complex problems in high-precision environments. I aim to transition from a student of theory to a state-of-the-art practitioner who ensures the reliability of the data that drives global industries.

My long-term career goal is to contribute to the advancement of precision measurement systems in National Metrology Institute of Indonesia that underpin modern science, communications, and critical infrastructure. As a time and frequency metrologist, I have developed a strong appreciation for how accurate and traceable measurements enable reliability, interoperability, and technological progress across industries. I aim to deepen my technical foundation in signal processing, electronics, radio frequency, and measurement systems in order to support national and international measurement standards.
