Biography

Biography

Kevin Mastriano is the CEO of Custom Calibration, Inc., an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited and ANAB-certified laboratory in North Haven, Connecticut. Since taking over the business in 2017 from his uncle and mentor, Frank Mastriano, Kevin has spearheaded significant growth, expanding the company’s team, fleet, and capabilities across New England. He personally authored the company’s quality management system to achieve its current accreditations.

Kevin’s path to metrology leadership was unconventional. He began his career on the shop floor at Precision X-Ray, eventually working his way up to International Field Service Engineer and Product Manager. This “boots on the ground” background shapes his pragmatic approach to innovation: he believes if you are willing to try, you can figure anything out.

Philosophy on Software & Innovation

Kevin’s enthusiasm for building extends beyond the laboratory to software development. Motivated by the capabilities of artificial intelligence, he has embraced the concept of “vibe coding”—rapidly building and iterating custom software—to create internal tools like LabHQ (heavily integrated with IndySoft), Pulse QMS (an ISO/IEC 17025 quality management system), and Compass CMS (a competency management system).

He challenges the traditional model where companies must fit into the “box” of off-the-shelf software or “Frankenstein” multiple systems together. Instead, Kevin advocates for a new era where AI enables leaders to build custom platforms that fit their specific workflows and values perfectly. He sees AI not just as a tool, but as a force multiplier that allows tailored innovation to thrive alongside human expertise.

Personal Life

Kevin lives in Connecticut with his wife and their two children (ages 5 and 6). When he isn’t spending time with his family, Kevin applies metrology principles to his pursuit of the perfect espresso, tracking extraction variables with the same rigor he brings to calibration. He is also an avid mountain biker and hiker, currently training for a Rim-to-Rim hike of the Grand Canyon in 2026.
