Abstract

Proficiency Testing (PT) and Interlaboratory Comparisons (ILC) play a critical role in demonstrating the technical competence of calibration laboratories and ensuring the reliability of measurement results. Accreditation requirements, such as ISO/IEC 17025 and related policies, emphasize participation in PT/ILC programs as a key component of laboratory quality management and continual improvement.

This tutorial provides a comprehensive overview of PT/ILC principles, their role in accreditation, and practical strategies for effective implementation. It will guide participants through the process of selecting appropriate PT/ILC schemes, analyzing results, and addressing nonconformities to enhance measurement confidence.

Through case studies and real-world examples, the session will explore common challenges—such as limited program availability, result variability, and resource constraints—and present methods to integrate PT/ILC outcomes into risk-based decision-making and quality assurance.

By the end of the session, attendees will gain the knowledge and tools needed to strengthen their laboratory’s PT/ILC approach, improve measurement reliability, and sustain long-term accreditation compliance.
