Biography

Jack Somppi has over 48 years of experience in test, measurement, and metrology science, working in more than 50 nations across 6 continents. He has both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering.

Specialty Areas:

Test and Measurement:

  • Application Experience: More than 48 years with electrical test and measurement instrumentation applications and calibration instrument design.
  • Sales & Marketing: Presently a consultant, he assists both T&M suppliers and measurement laboratories in promoting their capabilities and services. Presently he is the US Sales
  • Manager for Meatest, a European manufacturer of precision electrical metrology instruments.
  • International: T&M and metrology work with more than 50 nations across 6 continents.

Metrology Science:

  • DC & Low Frequency Electrical Metrology: More than 38 years of experience with Fluke and an additional 10 years working with other manufacturers of electrical metrology instrumentation.
  • Industry Wide Experience: Assisted laboratories ranging from National Measurement Institutes to industry and government primary and secondary calibration labs, as well as product testing and certification labs.
  • Professional Organization: Involved with NCSLI since 1987. An active member in NCSL
  • International for nearly 20 years. He spent more than 10 years on its board of directors.
  • Training Provider: Experienced creator and presenter of technical seminars and instructional courses, both in person and using the web.

Interests: Family, church, community service, and hobbies:

  • Happily married with an extended family of two married children and 5 grandchildren.
  • Lifelong involvement with Boy scouts; An Eagle Scout with continual community service as a Boy Scout volunteer, presently active in a local troop, the local council, and the regional national scouting territory.
  • Hobbies include photography, owing a vintage sports car, and home remodeling
